Agricultural Field Day

AgDay was an extremely fun day for me and my son Nikolay. It was great to see so many familiar faces and hallooing to them across the way as we moved

from station to station. Who knew you could learn such a variety of things all for a $1 entrance fee? I was particularly proud of my cousin Aaron as he gave an FFA presentation. How exciting to hear a young man speak of the importance of the study and practice of agriculture and good character! Good going Aaron!

The live animal exhibits were a hit with Nikolay. The lamas, the calf, chickens, geese (May I have the goose feather lying on the ground in the pen?), turkey, goat, and pig were fun to touch and hear. We were the second to the last group to touch that Nanny goat's teats. She was not a happy camper! Who can blame her? Nikolay also enjoyed the bee exhibit, the very active snake from the Eno, the weapons shown at the safety demonstration…oh, all of it was wonderful.

As I spoke to a family member about what a good time we had, she playfully rolled her eyes and said something like, "Well, if you grew up with it and knew you were going home to it, you wouldn't be so easily impressed." Maybe not, but I think I'm a little jealous of her.  I'm sure if I did the work of a farmer or a farmer's wife I would be even more impressed than I was as I left AgDay.
