Directors
HEAR Volunteer Directors

There are seven director positions for the HEAR group. Each director has a job description to follow while serving in this position. They serve on the HEAR board  and attend monthly meetings where they pray for God’s guidance, discuss the group functions, plan the yearly calendar, establish guidelines and attend to the overall business of the organization. Most director positions are responsible for overseeing the work of coordinators. They are to offer support and assistance to each coordinator and to the HEAR leaders. The directors attend group meetings where they are available to serve as needed. The HEAR Directors purpose is to give support to homeschooling families and to serve the organization in whatever ways they are needed.

We invite you to get to know our directors by reading about each one individually.

HEAR Communications Directors

Ed and Dolores Johnson
Ed & Dolores Johnson

We, Ed and Dolores, are the HEAR Communication Directors and would like to introduce ourselves. First, Dolores will tell you a little about herself, and then Ed. We will then share about our life together.

I grew up as a country girl, on a farm in eastern North Carolina. I attended a little community church with my family, and was baptized around the age of twelve. However, I did not have a personal relationship with the Lord. I married after high school and moved to Person County. It was a few years later that I came to know Jesus Christ as my Savior and Lord at a Billy Graham Crusade. In our first years of marriage, I worked outside the home. When I was expecting our second child, the Lord laid on my heart to be a stay-at-home mom. I’ve been whole-heartedly dedicated to this for 27 years. I currently enjoy serving on the board of directors and volunteering at the Person County Pregnancy Support Center. In recent years, I learned to play tennis, which is one of my favorite things to do. For years I have enjoyed many regular family game nights. Maintaining my rose garden is a favorite hobby of mine. Each of my children helped me to create it, by selecting a rose bush of their choice as a Mother’s Day gift. Serving the Lord in different capacities, home schooling, and being with family and friends bring me great pleasure. I especially enjoy spending time with my wonderful husband. As I prepare to begin my twenty-first year of home education, I am thankful for Ed who believes in me, and has been a constant source of encouragement and support to me through the years (even the times I bought curriculum that I never used, which happened more than once). I am also thankful for God’s continued blessings on our school and on the HEAR group, and look forward to serving as a director this year.

Fellowship Directors
Linwood & Kim Welch
Hi! We are Linwood and Kim Welch and will be serving as HEAR Fellowship  Directors this year. We seek to support and assist five coordinators which are Park Day, YFC, Moms Night Out, Parents w/Special Needs Children, and Fathers Outreach. Please feel free to contact us or one of the coordinators directly if you have a need or interest in one of these areas.

Kim and I have been married 21 years and have two boys, Joshua age 13 and Matthew age 11, two cats, one dog and a rabbit. We will be entering our eight year homeschooling and have used the Abeka curriculum each year. We are members of Westwood Baptist Church where we teach a 3rd - 4th grade Sunday school class.

I have been employed by First Piedmont Corp for 15 years driving a front load garbage truck emptying dumpsters all around Person and Caswell County. Kim enjoys cooking and experimenting on us with new recipes she's always finding, mostly all good. She also enjoys crafts and gardening and all our pets.  We all enjoy camping in our pop up camper during summer vacations.

I am also serving as board chairman this year and hope to serve our growing number of homeschool families in this capacity. Please call or email if you have any suggestions on how we could improve the way we serve and care for homeschoolers within our community. I would ask that you pray for the directors, coordinators, and leaders as we seek God's guidance and wisdom in ways to encourage you this year in your homeschool journey.

Cheryl Chaney
Hi!  My name is Cheryl.  My husband and I have been married for 22 years and are blessed with 4 wonderful boys.  I worked as a Dental Assistant for many years until I had my first child and decided to give that up and become a stay-at-home mom.  I have always homeschooled my children and have never considered anything else.  This is the most difficult and by far, the most rewarding experience I've ever had.  I can't imagine doing anything else.  I enjoy being with my family and camping together whenever possible.  I am excited to be on the HEAR board again this year and look forward to meeting all of our new members.
